Healing Through the Arts
The Gunnison Art Center has paired up with The Center for Mental Health to offer a mindful art series focusing on creatively working through emotions.
Drop That Pot ~ (Young Adults and Adults 16+)
Participants will be shown how to throw a basic form on the wheel, most students will struggle to find the perfect pot but, with the help of our instructor, will discover that you can succeed with help. Once the cylinders or bowls are thrown, the stress of wheel throwing them will be released by dropping them, allowing us to see the form in a different way and build from what we now have. This practice is freeing and would present itself to be a foundation of “failed” expectation that grows into something else, something uniquely yours.
CLASS SOLD OUT, stay tuned for fall offerings.

“Down the Rabbit Hole: A Collection of Whimsy and Wonder” by Kristin Gruenberger
This exhibit includes a collection of ceramic tableware and sculpture that will take the viewer down the rabbit hole and into a storybook. This collection will feature a variety of whimsical tea sets, drinking vessels, centerpieces, totem sculptures and ceramic toys. Picture a table of the Mad Hatter or Dr. Suess. Through playful use of form and color, each piece creates its own narrative and personality, evoking a sense of childlike wonderment. Navigating through form and function with playful curiosity opens the mind of not only the maker, but the viewer, seeing the limitless possibilities of the basic wheel thrown form. The magic of this exhibit is that each piece acts not only as a vessel of function, but an object that connects one to their inner child and world of wonder.
